Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus

Angels
Clearly, Francis Church was way ahead of his time. His response strikes a powerful chord with people because it resonates with several deep spiritual truths that we all know in our hearts. Church implies that there is much more to this world than we can pick up with our senses or understand with our minds. Behind the scenes, there is a higher intelligence at work, a loving energy that permeates the universe. This energy is not something tangible, rather it is something hidden from view, as if it were behind a veil.
Despite its elusiveness, this loving presence is the only thing that is “real”. Santa Claus, as a symbol of love, joy, and generosity, is yet another manifestation of this amazing energy and is thus, equally as real. Instead of confirming or denying a myth, Church gave people a reason to “believe”.

Family with Gifts
Perhaps the veil that Church mentions is thinnest during the holiday season, as many people seek to connect and appreciate one another. Like Francis Church, I believe that the Christmas Spirit comes in many forms. It lives in the joy, celebration, and fellowship of family and friends at holiday gatherings. You feel it when you give gifts, donate to those in need, or offer prayers of thanksgiving. It can even appear as a truce in the family, when issues and quarrels are temporarily suspended. In all its various disguises, the Christmas Spirit is in all of these things. It exists as a powerful energy that pushes aside the veil and offers us a glimpse into our highest beauty and joy.
